One of the joys of 2008: there are too many good races, too many viable opportunities to turn Red districts Blue on the electoral map.
Sadly, on Kos' latest map of the Western US, one of the opportunities that we all should be banding together to make a reality remains red. In CA-46, we have a true progressive, Debbie Cook, is facing a die-hard troglodyte, global-warming denying, immigrant bashing, etc ... Dana Rohrabacher who might be "the biggest blithering idiot" on the Hill.
In the past few weeks, this race has tightened. We are talking within measure of error. Debbie doesn't have DCCC behind her but she does have us. A few $XX.01s could help to flip a district which would, in this case, shift from deep (corrupt) red representation to truly a "better Democrat".
In my neck of the woods, the local Republicans
are showing a real green thumb (actually, perhaps green hammer) as there is green sprouting all over. Green signs with a gas pump are appearing with the words "Drill Now! Pay Less! Vote GOP!"
Now, other than the direct linkage of a gas pump and the Republican Party (the Grand Oil Party), it is hard to see any honesty in this poster. It is a continuation of the concerted Republican efforts to mislead and lie to the American people about critical energy issues. It is, in fact, impressive that this sign can be deceptive and simply dishonest on so many levels at the same time.
Tom Friedman is on a roll. He has, clearly, decided that the United States faces a pivot point. Either we will figure out smart energy policies and prosper, or we will fry. As he looks to the election campaign, he has decided that the choice are clear. We might (MIGHT) prosper with Obama-Biden. However, WE WILL FRY with McCain-Palin.
And, here is a TV interview worth watching, absorbing, and sharing as McCain lays McCain's failures out on the table.
Amid skyrocketing oil, gasoline, coal, and electricity (coming to a neighborhood near you) prices, 2008 offers Americans quite serious and stark choices between knowledgeable, impassioned, and thoughtful candidates when it comes to finding paths toward a prosperous 21st century economy, on the one side, and Fossil-Fool candidates focused on tightening our shackles to the ever-more costly (pollution, financial, otherwise) and archaic oil-coal based energy system.
One of these clear choices comes in America's 'energy capital', Houston, Texas, where former wind power executive Michael Skelly is challenging far-right winger John Culberson.
Michael was an easy choice for membership in the ranks of the Energy Smart Act Blue page. Join me after the fold for some indications as to why.

One of these stark choices comes in California's 46th district, where Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook is running against ten-term Congressman Dana Rohrbacher.

Join us at
Netroots Nation, next Friday, room 19, 9 am, for Energizing America: Setting an Agenda for Progress. This panel will range far and wide across our energy challenges and opportunities.
On the panel, two founders of Energize America: Jerome a Paris and Devilstower; two extremely Energy Smart candidates, Debbie Cook (CA-45) and Mark Begich (AK-Senate), and myself.
Harry Reid spoke bluntly on energy issues the other day. Looking the Faux and Balanced cameras square on, he spoke truth:
Coal makes us sick ...
This is an important statement. Reid is speaking truth to an audience that isn't used to hearing it.
Yet again, George the W has graced our
television screens.
Yet again, George the W has peddled truthiness masquerading as serious policy concepts.
Yet again, George the W is at work to undermine American and Global security and prosperity.
Yet again ...
